I have VERY fair skin that is also very oily, it's been extremely sensitized (which is different than "sensitive" and I will explain why in a moment) by sun exposure and product misuse. Oh, and I'm beginning to show signs of rosacea. I deal with my fair share of blackheads as well as the occasional breakouts and I'm not completely oblivious to the fact that fine lines that have begun to form around my eye area. (I'm not gonna lie, the fine lines bit is hard to admit.)
Real quick, the difference between sensitive skin and sensitized skin is pretty basic: sensitive skin is genetic, you were born with it. Sensitized skin is a condition which can be caused by a number of things: over exposure to sun, exfoliating too frequently or too aggressively, misuse of products, not using proper skin care products (like not using moisturizer) or exposure to extreme temperature fluctuations to name a few.
The reason why I've decided to reveal all my skin's "interesting" characteristics is because I love it. I really mean that! Sure, every now and then I get annoyed that my face feels like it's literally melting off, or that a whitehead has decided to give birth to a village on my chin. But, honestly, I love my skin, and you should love your skin, too. If you pay attention, your skin can reveal quite a bit to you about your health and general well being.
I want to use this blog to educate you, the reader, on your skin and proper skin care using my 9 years of experience as a skin care professional and 29 years as a human.
