There are a multitude of reasons why our largest organ requires regular maintenance from a professional. For starters, skin cells are under the attack of free radicals every second of every day. Which means our skin is in a constant war with the sun, ultraviolet radiation (tanning beds), humidity, smoke, pollution and the ingestion of sugar and charred foods.
We all know that our bodies fight off sickness through a healthy immune system and white blood cells, but sometimes we need more helpers. These superhero helpers are called antioxidants.
That's trendy word, isn't it? It's advertized on bottles and thrown around in commercials, without much explanation. Simply, antioxidants are tiny molecule miracles that neutralize free radical activities on our skin and in our bodies and stops the damage to our cells.
So, anyway... bringing it all back home... I was talking about why you need a facial. If you haven't ever received a skin treatment and are unaware of what to expect, I will explain what I do in one of my customized facials. All of the products I use are made with pure, organic ingredients, highly concentrated with antioxidants, nothing is lab-made and I select the products based on each individual client's unique skin care needs.
A customized skin treatment begins with a double cleanse to ensure that all make up, dirt and oil has been removed from the face, neck and decollete. For this routine I use 2 kinds of cleansers which depend on your skin type. After cleansing the skin, I provide a detoxifying lymph drainage massage of the upper arms, decollete, neck and face. Next, I use either a chemical or manual exfoliant accompanied by steam to prepare the skin for extractions. I preform manual extractions of blackheads, using q-tips. I use a lancet tool to remove milia or hardened whiteheads. Once extractions are complete, a mask, made of either a gel, cream or clay is brushed on the face, neck and decollete. While the mask is "working" (hydrating, nourishing or detoxifying) I use a cooling, soothing lotion to provide a hand and arm massage. Lastly, a serum or eye treatment is applied followed by toner and moisturizer/SPF. The whole facial experience takes 1 hour.
(Sidenote: the aforementioned describes a treatment I can also provide for the back.)
If you're interested in receiving a skin consultation or treatment, I'm available Tuesday through Saturday, give me call if you have questions or would like to make an appointment at 262-7888.
